What is Gluten Intolerance?

Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, rye, and gluten contaminated oats. Gluten give dough the chewiness seen in most breads. Because gluten is used in many processed foods, most people are constantly exposed to it. This is a challenge for our immune systems because the immune system attacks foreign proteins like gluten (gliadin).

The immune system can become increasingly "intolerant" to gluten, creating long-standing body-wide inflammation and intestinal damage. Gluten intolerance is seen in conditions such as autoimmune celiac disease and other intestinal conditions. The long-standing inflammation from gluten exposure can also produce many neurological symptoms such as brain fog, attention issues, and fatigue.

Our gluten intolerance test, processed by Cyrex Labs (array #1), is a basic test for gluten intolerance and celiac disease. Since this is a saliva test, it can be easily used as a gluten intolerance test for children and adults.

You can take your results to your healthcare practitioner who can work with you to design an effective lifestyle treatment plan and tell you if you need to permanently or temporarily remove gluten from your diet. Note that we do offer a more comprehensive and detailed gluten intolerance blood test.

Note: One must consume small amounts of gluten containing foods at least once every other day for two weeks prior to taking this test. EXAMPLE ONLY: Consume gluten containing foods on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for two weeks then conduct the test.
